Connecting the BlackBerry to the Enterprise

When you're talking about the BlackBerry, you don't take into consideration only features like quick e-mailing, but options like integrating these devices to company's enterprise application software (EAS), such as Lotus Domino or Microsoft Exchange, NEON or many others. These types of software are very expensive as they are of a crucial importance for large corporations, where communication and development have their defining role. Therefore, these large companies had already made great investments in an enterprise application software before implementing the BlackBerry devices. This was seen as a great business opportunity for RIM, BlackBerry's maker, which proved to be very beneficial for both developer and customer.

In order for the BlackBerry to become a niche in the enterprise software, RIM developed an application that enables the BlackBerry to connect to the corporate network - the BlackBerry Enterprise Software (BES). BES offers the company full control to the employees' access to various devices, improving company's security and flexibility by controlling the messaging system. BlackBerry's MDS (Mobile Data Service) is a very important feature that helps the company extending corporate information within the corporate network without compromising the security of information.

The BlackBerry can be connected to MDS wirelessly or through a desktop computer. Through the wireless network, the BlacBerry stays connected to almost all applications in the desktop. When connected to the PC, the BlackBerry is connected to the Handeld Manager. By this application, you can communicate directly with the BES and the e-mails go from your e-mail server to the BES server.
